ABOUT JESSICA

Surrey Psychotherapist

MY PHILOSOPHY

When supporting children, youth and families, I have a collaborative therapeutic approach. My goal is to strengthen the social, emotional, and behavioral relationships within oneself and the family system by providing a safe, trusting, nurturing, empathic and non-judgemental space to all individuals.

I am mindful in my approach when working with diverse family systems. I work through a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed lens to support these individuals and their unique experiences. My strategies and interventions are based in solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, child-centered play therapy, person-centered therapy, and structural family therapy to help individuals move towards positive change.

I work in-person in South Surrey and online. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

BIOGRAPHY

I received both my Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology and Bachelors of Education from the University of British Columbia.

I have been working with the Surrey School District for over 15 years.  I am currently providing counselling support to elementary school aged children and work alongside families and outside agencies when in need. In addition to this, I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor in good standing with the BCACC.

Being raised in a cultural family and living within a Western society, I recognized many cross-cultural differences within my home and socially among peers. This allowed me to gain a better understanding of self and others. Now as an adult living within in a diverse community, I recognize the unique needs and ways of living for individuals and their family systems. Therefore, my role as a counsellor is to work alongside these individuals to establish and bring positive changes within themselves, their relationships with others, and within their family systems.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cooking, exercising, and taking time to travel to create beautiful memories with my loved ones.
